Unit Thirteen

   1. 我来美国是为了学习科学技术，而不只是为了旅游。
      I come to the U.S.A. in order to study science and technology, but not to travel.

   2. 这双鞋太贵了，我买不起。
      This pair of shoes is too expensive for me to buy.

   3. 我们都不知道上哪儿去找第一手资料。
      None of us knew where to find the first-hand materials.

   4. 他的工作只不过是帮助新来的外国学生安顿下来。
      His job is just to help new foreign students settle down.

   5. 我学英语不仅出于兴趣，还因为我想换一种工作。
      I learn English not only because it is an interest of mine,   
     but also because I want to change a job.

   6. 为了建立更为密切的关系，协议中的双方均应做出最大的努力。
      Both sides in the agreement should do all in their power
     to set up even closer relationships.

   7. 对我们两国来说，保护和发展友好关系是至关重要的。理解是通向这一目标的重要途径之一。
      It is very important for our two countries to keep and develop friendly relationship. 
     Understanding is one of the important paths to this aim.

   8. 尽管中国是一个历史悠久、文化丰富的大国，但它仍是一个发展中国家。为实现四个现代化它还有很长的路要走。
      Although China is a big country with a long history and culture
     she is still a developing country. 
     She has a long way to go in  order to realise four modernizations.
